Abstract

685,023. Automatic voltage control systems. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-GES. May 1, 1951 [May 2, 1950], No. 10251/51. Class 38 (iv). The voltage of an alternator is controlled by a vibrating contact regulator controlling the D.C. saturating current of a magnetic amplifier, the rectified output of which controls the field of the exciter. The main field 36 of the exciter is supplied from a constant voltage sub-exciter 4, and is opposed by a control field 3a supplied from the alternator output via transformer 7, the A.C. windings 8a, 8b of a magnetic amplifier and a rectifier 9. The D.C. windings 10a, 10b of the amplifier are supplied from rectifier 12 and controlled by the regulator having a coil 6 responsive to alternator output voltage and a coil 5 responsive to alternator field voltage. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the exciter has a single field winding energized by the resultant of the sub-exciter voltage and the opposing control voltage. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the main field of the exciter is shunt excited.
