Abstract
684,787. Controlling power by ignitrons; converting. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. June 29, 1950 [June 29, 1949], No. 16282/50. Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv). An ignition system for an ignitron 11, which avoids excessive igniter current, comprises a condenser 21 which is cyclically discharged over a thyratron 17 (controlled by a phase-shift circuit 35, 37) into the igniter circuit of the ignitron, the condenser being charged from the A.C. source L1-L3 through a rectifier 18 and transformer 13, the primary winding of which is in series with a self-saturating choke 14 so that the secondary voltage applied to the rectifier is peaky. This results in a low value of follow-through current from the transformer to the igniter when the condenser discharges. A second ignitron 12, arranged back-to-back to the first so as to form a pair controlling a motor 10, is similarly controlled by a condenser 29 charged over rectifier 26 from another secondary winding 13d on the transformer 13.
