Abstract

<PICT:0684418/IV (a)/1> Thermo-setting material carried in moulds 91 is subjected to heat treatment by ultrasonic acoustic energy which is radiated by a cylindrical trough 81 of a polycrystalline dielectric transducing material (see Group XXXIX) and concentrated in the longitudinal axis, the moulds being wholly or partially immersed in a suitable acoustic conducting liquid 86 and moved along the axis by a conveyer 88.ALSO:<PICT:0684418/III/1> <PICT:0684418/III/2> Chemical reactions in a fluid may be accelerated by the application of ultrasonic acoustic energy which is concentrated at the common centre of curvative 41 of two polycrystalline dielectric transducers 44, 45 formed with concave spherical or cylindrical surfaces (see Group XXXIX). In an arrangement for degassing a liquid 109, Fig. 6, contained in an open-topped tube 108 provided with an exit pipe 111, the ultrasonic energy radiated by a transducer 101 to its centre of curvature is delimited by an acoustic lens comprising a shaped aluminium plate 107 which closes the lower end of tube 108. This arrangement avoids the violent reaction which may occur due to concentrated acoustic energy. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the radiated energy is transmitted into the tube by an acoustic reflector.ALSO:The ageing of spirituous beverages is accelerated by the application of ultrasonic acoustic energy concentrated at the centre of curvature of a polycrystalline dielectric transducer having a concave spherical radiating surface (see Group XXXIX).
