Abstract

684,250. Frequency modulation. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 16, 1951 [March 16, 1950], No. 6561/50. Class 40 (v). In order to counteract distortion in a frequency-modulation receiver due to non-linearity in the discriminator response, pre-distortion is introduced at the transmitter by applying its modulated output to a local discriminator and feeding back the resulting signal in negative sense to the modulating circuit. The discriminators used at the transmitter and the receiver should have the same frequency characteristics. The system is of particular use in transmitting television signals by a radio link from a primary transmitting station to a receiver at a retransmitting station.
