A n apertured building - block is formed with grooves 10a in its faces in line with the faces of the webs W and with the inner faces 12 of the block walls to facilitate the formation of ¥, ¢ and “ blocks by breaking away parts of the block. Additional keying grooves 10, preferably shallower, are provided for the attachment of a facing as described in Specification 595,232. The block may be square in elevation.
