Abstract
Nickel is separated from solutions containing it and cobalt, and possibly other metals such as iron, zinc, manganese, copper, lead and magnesium by treating the solution at pH 1-5.5, between 85 DEG C and the boiling point, at atmospheric or higher pressure, with metallic cobalt and sulphur, arsenic, antimony, selenium, or tellurium in oxidic or elemental form; alternatively, part of the metallic cobalt may be combined with part or whole of the elements listed. A large excess of the reagents, in finely-divided condition, may be used. A wetting agent may be added to the solution. Copper and lead are precipitated with the nickel.
