Abstract

Spinnerets are made by moulding (see Group V) from thermoplastic or thermosetting resins. There is first formed a laminated structure comprising layers of parallel filaments, which filaments can be removed by a chemical treatment, held separated by material unaffected by the chemical treatment, the parallel filaments of one layer being parallel to the parallel filaments of any other layer. A solid block of synthetic resin, resistant to the chemical treatment is formed within and surrounding the laminated structure. The block is cut into plates perpendicular to the filaments which are removable by chemical treatment, and the short filaments left in the plates are removed by chemical treatment. The expression "chemical treatment" includes removal of the filaments by solution in an appropriate solvent, removal by chemical reaction, and removal by electrolytic means. Textile filaments, glass-filaments, or metal wires resistant to the chemical treatment may be incorporated in the spinneret as reinforcement.
