683,608. Making electric components, condensers, &c. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 7, 1949 [Oct. 7, 1948], No. 26108/48. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). Soldering.-A method of soldering a metal body to an aluminium, or aluminium alloy, surface comprises providing a coating of copper on said surface, tinning the copper locally where soldering is to be effected, removing the copper not covered by the tinning and soldering the metal body to the tinning material. The process is stated to be useful for attaching tags to aluminium casings of electric components or to foil condenser-electrodes. The excess copper surrounding the tinned area is removed in a nitric acid or chromic and sulphuric acid bath. ' In another form the body may be directly soldered to the copper plating, thereby simultaneously providing the tinning, and finally the excess plating is stripped off. As an alternative the copper is deposited only on the areas to be tinned, by coating the aluminium on the copper-free areas with wax or other protection before plating. The Provisional Specification states that the copper may be silver-plated prior to tinning, the excess copper and silver being removed.
