Abstract

683,375. Windscreen cleaners. OISHEI, J. R. Sept. 6, 1951 [Nov. 24, 1950], No. 21093/51. Class 138 (i). A flexible backing 7, Fig. 2, for an elongate flexible wiper body 1 having a retaining bead 3 joined to the body by a reduced neck 4, comprises a one piece stamping of flat metal strip with a longitudinally extending neck-receiving slot 8 terminating short of its opposite ends and having an enlarged entrance opening 9, Fig. 3, permitting the threading engagement of the body therewith. The body 1 is assembled on the backing strip by passing the bead 3 through the opening 9 so that the neck 4 can engage in the slot 8. The length of the major portion of the slot is such that the body may be compressed lengthwise therein and thereafter released to permit it to expand across the opening 9 into the slot portion 8'. The edges of the strip are slidably engaged by jaws 17 on the ends of secondary holders 16 rockable on the ends of a primary holder connected to the wiper arm. The wiper blade is secured in position by one jaw 17<SP>1</SP> interlocking with a recess 18 in one edge of the strip.
