Abstract
683,316. Electric indicating systems. AKTIEBOLAGET STOCKHOLMS BRYGGERIER. June 8, 1950 [June 9, 1949], No. 14328/50. Class 40 (i) [Also in Group XL (b)] A float for use in density measurements, in which it has to be weighed in a liquid, consists of a hollow glass body 1 containing an iron core or permanent magnet 2 adapted to be immersed in the liquid in a vessel 3 surrounded by a thermostatically controlled jacket 4. The float is brought into an immersed " balance " position by the attractive force of a solenoid 9, the current in which is regulated by a photo cell 7 so that at " balance " a predetermined amount of the light from the lamp 5 is intercepted by the lower end of the magnet 2. The solenoid 9 is carried by one arm of an analytical balance 10 and the solenoid is weighed thereby both with the regulated current flow therein and with no current flow, the difference between the two weights giving the weight of the float in the liquid. The float may contain solid material the density of which is to be measured or be used for investigating electrode reactions or the distribution of particle size in suspensions.
