Abstract

683,107. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. March 21, 1951 [March 21. 1950], No. 6763/51. Class 8 (i). A suction cleaner nozzle has a detachable plastic skin 15 holding a locking member 11 for a rotatably mounted connector tube 3, the locking member being inserted transversely through one or more apertures in the nozzle wall to engage the tube 3 and prevent its withdrawal from the exhaust port 2. The member 11 comprises a U-shaped bail whose legs pass through the wall apertures and engage a peripheral groove 10 of the tube 3 and whose yoke lies in a groove 13 outside the exhaust port 2. A brush 22 slidably mounted in a compartment 21 behind the suction mouth is moved by springs 42 to a working position on operating a pedal 52 and leaf spring 47 to release a latch 51. The brush is guided to slide in a direction backwardly inclined at an acute angle to the plane of the surface being cleaned. A plate 20 bounding the nozzle mouth 6 provides a smooth rounded bristle engaging surface, and also grips the skin 15 along an edge of a lip 16 thereof.
