Abstract
681,965. Photographic roll-film cameras. ISTEGSTAHL-GES. March 12, 1951 [March 24, 1950], No. 5904/51. Class 98 (i). A roll-film camera capable of being held and operated by one hand only is characterised in that a swingable finger rest is fitted in the bottom of the camera body and in that the rear of the body is provided with a milled or knurled palmengaging portion while the elements for setting and releasing the shutter, feeding the film, focusing, and controlling the lens diaphragm are arranged in one or more recesses opening into one or other of the two vertical front edges of the camera or closely adjacent thereto within reach of the index finger of the holding and operating hand. As shown, the camera body is a cuboid having a knurled pivoted finger rest 1 retractable into a recess 9 and disposed so that when it is held with the top joint of the middle finger the knurled back 5 of the body is pressed into the palm of the hand. A lever 3 operable against a return spring by the forefinger to set the shutter and wind on the film simultaneously is located within a recess 14 and a shutter release button also operable by the forefinger is located in an adjacent recess 15. The body is further recessed to receive a lens 7 and a coupled view-finder lens 8, both adjusted for focusing on rotation of a ring 7a by the forefinger. The lens 7 is also provided with a diaphragm-adjusting ring operable by the forefinger. A view-finder hood 13 is pivoted at 12 so as to be retractable into a recess 11 in the body. On looking into the viewfinder, the knuckle of the thumb rests against the lower part of the cheek.
