Abstract

681,193. Holders for photographic material. GNOME PHOTOGRAPHIC PRODUCTS, Ltd., LOEBSTEIN, H., and ENGELHARD, N. N. Nov. 14, 1950 [Dec. 15, 1949], No. 32191/49. Class 98 (i). A frame for holding photographic sensitive material during projection printing, and having a masking frame hinged to a base-plate, comprises a clamp which locates a sheet of printing paper on the base-plate when the holder is closed or only partly open, and disengaging means which open the clamp automatically when the holder is more fully open. As shown, the baseplate 1 of the frame has a channelled portion 2 formed on one side thereof. A plate 4 overlies portion 2 and rests on its upturned edge 3, being pressed by springs 6 carried by screws 8 fixed to the bottom of portion 2. Plate 4 carries blocks 9 in which a rod 10 is journalled. A U- shaped bar 11, fixed to the rod 10, has extensions 12 which lie beyond the edges of plate 4, and bear, when bar 11 is swung away from the base-plate 1, on a plate 13 on the base of portion 2. This causes the inner edge of plate 4 to be raised from the base-plate. A plate 17 is mounted under plate 4 by an adjustable pin-andslot connection, and a bar 14, with a portion 15 at right-angles to it, is fixed below plate 4. The bar 11 is raised, raising plate 4, plate 17, and bars 14, 15. The-paper is placed on the baseplate so as to be located against bars 14, 15, and bar 11 is lowered. Plate 4 is lowered, bars 14, 15 sinking into channelled portion 2 and into a recess 16 in the base-plate, respectively, and plate 17 presses the edge of the paper against the base-plate. This occurs when the ends 12 of bar 11 leave the plate 13, i.e. before bar 11 is fully lowered on to the base-plate. Plate 17 serves as a border mask for one edge of the paper. The other edges are masked by strips 23, slidably mounted on bar 11 and rod 10.
