Abstract

680,868. Contacting gases with liquids. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 18, 1951 [Aug. 11, 1950], No. 20003/50. Class 55 (ii). A tower 1 in which gases are contacted with liquids has arranged therein a packing comprising a number of layers of spaced, parallel bars 2 of diamond cross-section such that the free area within the tower at any layer of bars in the horizontal plane which includes the horizontal area of the bars being between 40 per cent and 60 per cent of the total area at that plane of the tower, liquid being supplied at least at the rate of 1 cubic metre per hour for each 10 per cent of the free area to each square foot of the total area. The bars may have a horizontal cross-sectional width of from 1 to 4 inches.
