Abstract

680,318. Optical-projection systems. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 21, 1950 [Sept. 21, 1949], No. 23212/50. Class 97 (i). [Also in Group XL (b)] A Schmidt optical system for projecting a television image on to a screen is associated with a further projection system comprising a lens mounted in an aperture in the centre of the spherical mirror of the Schmidt system for projecting the television image on to a further screen. By this means the light which would otherwise fall on to the central portion of the spherical mirror of the Schmidt system and would thus not be used in forming the final image, is utilized to produce a further image, thereby increasing the possible number of viewers. An image of the picture on the screen of the cathode-ray tube 1 is produced on the screen 5 by means of spherical mirror 3, plane mirror 7 and corrector plate 4, as described in Specification 548,750. A further image is produced on the screen 10 by means of the lens 9 which is supported by a holder 11 fitted into an aperture provided centrally in the mirror 3. The receiver and screens 5 and 10, which are arranged to be mutually perpendicular, are housed within a cabinet 12. An alternative embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a similar optical system with the mirror 7 omitted so that the screens 5 and 10 are arranged parallel to one another.
