Abstract

680,290. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. LUCAS, Ltd., J. Nov. 13, 1950 [Oct. 10, 1949], No. 25931/49. Class 135 [Also in Group XXXV] Jet aircraft engines are synchronised by causing the speed detectors to actuate by-pass valves in the fuel supply system. The fuel supply system for each engine comprises a fuel pump b such as that described in Specification 577,016 in which the angle of the swash plate d is controlled to maintain a predetermined fuel pressure to air pressure ratio by a detector n in known manner. Fuel is fed through a manually controlled throttle q to the burner p. The speed control system (see Group XXXV) actuates an electromagnetic valve 8 to by-pass fuel along pipe 4 back to the supply. When the throttles 10 are not coincident (i.e. for separate control of the engines) contacts 11 disconnect the synchronising system. In an alternative fuel supply arrangement the fuel pump may additionally be controlled by the pressure of air supplied to the engine by a blower, in which case the speed controlled magnet valves by - pass the air supply line to synchronise the engines, Fig. 2 (not shown).
