680,283. Hydraulic master cylinders. KAUFMANN, A. Sept. 9, 1949 [March 31, 1949], No. 8718/49. Class 103 (i). A hydraulic master cylinder for vehicle brake and other control systems, of the type comprising a main piston 1, the force on which is transmitted by a compression spring 5 to an auxiliary piston 6, the space beyond which is connected to the brake cylinders or other actuated device, is characterized in that no return flow of liquid is possible past the auxiliary piston 6 whatever may be its position in the cylinder. Both pistons 1 and 6 carry cup washers 4 and 7, respectively, the latter engaging, when the auxiliary piston is at the limit of its movement, the open end of a tubular member 8 provided with radial ports 9 in its side.
