Abstract
679,867. Centrifugal machines. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Jan. 31, 1950 [Feb. 1, 1949], No. 2483/50. Class 23 In a vapour generator having centrifugal liquid and vapour separating means within a vessel, a mixture of vapour and liquid from vapour generating tubes passes into an annular chamber formed between the interior surfaces of the vessel and an inner wall and is discharged through a number of circumferentially arranged passages approximately tangentially to an upper region of a whirl chamber having an upper vapour outlet and a lower liquid outlet. A mixture of water and steam passes,from steam generating tubes 16, Fig. 2, to an annular chamber 14, and thence through tangentially disposed passages 40 to a whirl chamber formed within a wall 60. The water is impelled towards the wall 60 and then passes down through an annular passage 92 containing guide vanes, a vortex inhibitor 30 and a downcomer 12 to a water drum (not shown), which is connected to the lower ends of the tubes 16. The steam collects at the centre of the whirl chamber and flows upwardly through the corrugated plates of an auxiliary separator 102 to tubular members 122, 124, 140, 142, Fig. 3, and thence by way of pipes 118, 120, 130, 136, 138, 112 to a superheater header 110. After being superheated in tubes 104, the steam passes from an outlet heater 151 to a discharge pipe 152. As shown in Fig. 4, the members 122, 124, 140, 142 form parts of four of the guide vanes which define the passages 40. An access trap 96 is provided, and the components housed within the shell 10 can be dismantled for removal through a manhole 11. A pressure tight shell 150 encloses the tubes 16 and 104 and the furnaces. Specification 679,866, [Group XIII], is referred to.
