Abstract

678,887. Fuel-injection pumps. C.A.V., Ltd. May 23, 1951 [July 25, 1950], No. 18534/50. Class 102 (i) In a fuel-injection pump for a multi-cylinder internal-combustion engine, a single cylinder pump is provided with the usual control edges g on the piston b and the delivery valve n is cylindrical in form and has a conical extension o engaging the outlet m from the pump cylinder. The valve is loaded by a spring y and is rotated by a tongue and groove coupling x, w, through gearing u, t and s. The valve has an axial groove p that communicates with a chamber z, into which the fuel flows when the valve r is lifted, and also with ports g leading to the engine cylinders. The closing of the valve creates a small suction in the ports q to prevent drip at the injectors. In a modification the seat o is replaced by a stop. The pinions u, t may be used as a gear pump to feed the injection pump.
