677,226. Sound reproducing devices. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 18, 1948 [June 19, 1947], No. 16204/47. Class 40 (iv). In an electro acoustic transducer in which a space behind the diaphragm is provided to give added acoustic stiffness, the major part of the wall is formed either by the end of the windings of an operating coil or by a cheek of the spool on which the coil is wound. As shown, the upper cheek 4 of a spool surrounding the centre polepiece 3 rests in a recess in a cylindrical permanent magnet 1 and supports a diaphragm 8 on its outer rim. A recess 5 in the cheek 4 forms with the diaphragm a damping cavity, the effect of which can be adjusted by the provision of holes such as 6 covered by woven silk 7.
