Abstract

676,750. Belt gearing. HISCOCK, R. S., and HISCOCK, F. R. Sept. 9, 1949, No. 23396/49. Class 80 (i). A method and an appliance for fixing a component of a fastener to a'belt end comprises fitting the said component having a pair of jaws 1, 2 over the end of the belt and clamping it between two interfitting blocks 7, 8. Tubular rivets 18, 19 are then driven through holes in the jaws 1, 2 and through the belt material by means of a mandril 17 having a portion 20 of reduced diameter engaging the rivet and being guided in holes 15, 16 in the block 8. The rivets are finally driven against anvils 23, 24 which burr the ends of the rivets over the lower jaw of the fastener component, the rivets having preformed heads 21 at their upper ends. The jaws 1, 2 are connected by a stirrup portion 3 bifurcated to fit another such component and to be connected by a suitable pin or wire thereto. Specification 676,739, [Group XXII], is referred to.
