675,421. Indicating-apparatus. NISTRI, U. June 9, 1950 [June 9, 1949], No. 14476/50. Classes 106 (iii) and 106 (iv). A device for illuminating the ciphers exhibited through the dials of taxi meters and other instruments is characterized in that a sheet 2 of methyl methacrylate is placed between the meter protecting glass and the dial 1, or is arranged to form the dial, the sheet 2 having apertures 6 opposite the ciphers to be illuminated. The sheet 2 is illuminated from below by lamps 3 in a tube 4 accessible from both ends 5 and having openings 9. The lower edges 7 of the apertures 6 are bevelled, e.g. at 60 degrees and adjacent portions of the rear face are ground. If the sheet 2 itself forms the dial it is rendered opaque and appropriate engravings are made thereon, the ciphers appearing directly behind.
