Abstract

675,152. Cosmetics. PROCTER & GAMBLE CO. May 31, 1950 [Aug. 29, 1949], No. 13578/50. Class 81 (i). A cosmetic cream comprises essentially a homogeneous mixture of (A) a liquid portion consisting mainly of light mineral oil containing an organic non-ionic amphiphilic emulsifying agent and (B) a dispersed solid portion comprising a mineral wax and an alcoholic hydroxylbearing firming agent melting above 120‹ F. and selected from the group consisting of high molecular saturated normal primary aliphatic alcohols, monoamides of substantially saturated fatty acids of 14-18 C atoms with alkylolamines of 2-4 C atoms, and monoesters of substantially saturated fatty acids of 12-18 C atoms with saturated aliphatic polyhydric alcohols of 2-3 C atoms. The liquid portion may include also small amounts of water and a saturated polyhydric alcohol of 2 or 3 C atoms. The emulsifying agent may be a compound of the formula RXY(Z) w , where R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical of 10-30 C atoms, X is an ether, thioether, ester, or amide linkage, Y is the polyvalent residue after removing at least one (OH) and at least one H from a saturated aliphatic polyhydric alcohol of 2-6 C atoms, Z is the residue after removing one (OH) from a polyalkylene glycol of at least 10 C atoms having 2 or 3 C atoms in each alkylene unit thereof, and w is an integer from 1-5. An example of a cream according to the invention consists of 40 parts by weight of light mineral oil, 25 of petrolatum, 25 of octadecanol, 2 of lanolin, 1.5 of ethylene glycol, 0.5 of water, 0.5 of TiO 2 , and 5 parts of a non-ionic emulsifier which is the stearic acid mono-ester of propylene glycol etherified with polyethylene glycol having 30-40 C atoms in the polyethylene glycol chain.
