The movable bridging contact 15 of a slow-break A.C. switch carries a spring-loaded roller 22 co-operating with the dolly 24 so as to' take up the lostmotion that normally exists between the dolly and the contact in the "on" position. In the form shown, the dolly 24 has three flat cam surfaces adapted to engage the roller, the surface 27 corresponding to the "on" position, the surface 26 which causes the contact 15 to pivot about fixed contact 13 and separate from contact 14, and the surface 25 which causes the contact 15 to separate from the contact 13 also. The roller is mounted on a spindle 21 bearing with lost motion in slots 20 in lugs 19 on the contact 15 and is urged upwardly by a spring 23. In modifications, the ends of the spindle engage with lost-motion in slots in the base 10, the slots being either closed at the top by the cover 11, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), or formed entirely in the base 10, Fig. 5 (not shown), or formed in a U-shaped bridging member riveted in the base 10 (Fig. 6, not shown). In a further modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the lugs 19 are formed on a part riveted to the underside of the contact 15.
