Abstract

Textiles finishing compositions comprise an aqueous dispersion of a halogenated monomeric or low polymeric amino-aldehyde condensation product, e.g. as described in Specification 669,991, together with a curing catalyst comprising an amino or substituted amino-aliphatic alcohol salt of an inorganic acid, e.g. phosphates, or hydrochlorides of 2-amino-butanol, 2-amino-2-methyl propanol, 2-amino-2-methyl propanol, 1 - amino - 2 - methyl butanol, diethanolamine, monoethanolamine, triethanolamine, &c. In examples: (1) 300 parts of an amorphous solid resin obtained by reacting 1 mol. melamine with 4 mols. 37 per cent formaldehyde at pH 9.3 and 80 DEG C. were mixed with 1182 parts water, 30 parts chloramine T and 4 parts 2-amino-2-methyl propanol-(1) phosphate. The mixture remained clear for 24 hours and could be diluted with an equal volume of water without precipitating the resin. The solution was used to pad wool flannel which was steeped therein for 12 hours so as to deposit 12 per cent resin solids. The flannel was dried and heated to 275 DEG F. to cure the resin.ALSO:Textile finishing compositions comprise an aqueous dispersion of a halogenated aminoaldehyde condensation product halogenated, e.g., as described in Specification 669,991, together with a curing catalyst comprising an amino or substituted amino-aliphatic alcohol salt of an inorganic acid, e.g. phosphates or hydrochlorides of 2-amino-butanol, 2-amino-2-methyl propanol, 1-amino-2-methyl butanol, diethanolamine, monoethanolamine, triethanolamine, &c. The solutions were used to pad wool flannel which was steeped therein for 12 hours so as to deposit 12 per cent resin solids. The flannel was dried and heated to 275 DEG F. to cure the resin. The treatment imparts resistance to shrinking. The material retains a soft feel.
