Abstract

671,864. Spray-producers &c. BOURDILLON, G. May 16, 1950 [June 13, 1949 ; April 13, 1950], No. 12229/50. Class 69 (iii), A spray gun in which powdered material is melted by a flame is characterised in that it includes a detachable head with a duct delivering a mixture of fuel and combustion assisting agent to the centre of the powder stream, and a means for lowering the speed of the powder stream at its outlet. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, powder in suspension is fed through a tube 11, and the fuel, &c. is fed through a duct 15 from a jacket 13, a portion passing between the tube and jacket at 13' producing an annular flame. Compressed gas, e.g. air, fed at 14 escapes from an annular outlet 14<SP>1</SP>. The powder speed is lowered by the divergence of the pipe 11. Alternatively, fuel, &c. flow from the outlet 13' is prevented by screwing the jacket 13 to the pipe 11. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3, powder is fed through a duct 6, and fuel, &c. through passages 10 to an outlet 5, and pressure air through a passage 3<SP>1</SP>. The powder outlet 7 has a rim 8 which slows and deflects the powder stream. Orifices 9 are provided in the rim, and are directed towards the longitudinal axis of the head, or may be skew with respect thereto.
