Abstract

671,852. Grafting shears. CARDARELLI, E. Nov. 11, 1949. No. 28978/49. Class 30. Means for adapting secateurs to form cuts for the grafting of vines &c. comprise a blade secured to one of the pivoted jaws of the secateurs with its lower end spaced from the jaw and a channelled element secured to the other jaw with the axis of the channel at an angle to the plane containing the jaws. As shown, a blade is secured to the jaw 1 by screws so that the part 2, which has a cutting edge, is inclined to the jaw at an angle of 10 degrees and the lower end 3 is spaced from the jaw. A channelled member 6 is secured to the jaw 4, at an angle of 22 degrees to the plane of the jaws, by a wing nut 5, the jaw 4 being provided with a recess 7 to receive the cutting edge of the blade when the jaws of the secateurs are closed. The two stems to be grafted are treated in turn each being obliquely severed by the normal action of the secateurs and slit by the blade 2. The graft is completed bv overlapping the tongues and binding. The element 6 is readily interchangeable for use with stems of different sizes.
