Abstract

669,724. Universal joints. HOLOYE, J. A. March 22, 1950 [March 24, 1949], No. 7220/50. Class 80 (ii). A flexible joint comprises rubber balls 7 engaged between the plane flanks of projections 2, 5 on sleeves 1, 4 secured to the shaft ends, the balls being retained by a flanged ring 12 fastened to the projections 5. In the unloaded condition, shown in the upper part of Fig. 2, the balls are slightly compressed, and the flanks of the projections are so inclined that, at full load, adjacent loading flanks are parallel, as shown in the lower part of Fig. 2.
