Abstract

669,668. Glass and like fibres. SCHULLER, W. Nov 15, 1950 [Aug. 26, 1949], No. 22297/49. Class 56. Apparatus for drawing glass or similar threads is provided with a cutting edge 8 for automatically severing the drop 3 formed at the end of the thread 4 on starting or breaking. The new thread thus formed is drawn by suction laterally through slits 5 into the attenuating jet 2. As only the thread passes through the jet the latter may be made substantially smaller than it would be if the drop also passed therethrough. The threads are discharged through a conical inverted funnel 11, having a bent outer end 12.
