Abstract

668,687. Percussive drills. LORD MANUFACTURING CO. April 21, 1950 [June 20, 1949], No. 9850/50. Class 124. A handle for a percussive. drill has a resilient mounting the stiffness of which is such that the natural frequency of the handle on the tool is less than ¢# 2 times the frequency of the vibrations from the percussive forces. As shown, offset lugs 7 house a pin 6 the ends of which are secured to the inner sleeves 8 of a tube-form rubber mounting the outer sleeves 10 of which are fixed to arms 11 at one end of a handle 12. The inner and outer sleeves of the mounting are rotated relatively to one another to load the mounting to the required hold-down force. Under these conditions a bar 15 on the handle 12 is forced into contact with a stop 16 on the lugs. When the hold-down force is exceeded the handle is floating and vibrations are absorbed if the relationship stated above is maintained.
