Abstract
The process of Specification 653,364 is carried out continuously at 5-40 DEG C. under a superatmospheric pressure of 10-30 pounds, the moving reactants being maintained under these conditions for at least 10 minutes; the mixture of benzene hexachloride isomers is separated from the halohydrocarbon used and the latter recycled with fresh benzene to the reaction zone; chloroform is specified as an additional halohydrocarbon that may be used, and an organic peroxide catalyst is essential. An example is given of the process, using methylene chloride and benzoyl peroxide. Suitable apparatus is shown and described.
