Abstract
666,893. Pneumatic transmission of power. AKTIEBOLAGET GOTAVERKEN. March 24, 1949 [April 16, 1948], No. 8115/49. Class 8 (ii) The starting tractive force of a vehicle driven by a prime mover actuated by pressure gas supplied by an internal combustion engine and a compressor driven thereby is effected by an injector 8 having its induction inlet 15 connected to a gas duct 3 between engine cylinders 1 and the prime mover cylinder 6 and being supplied through a duct 17 from an air storage vessel 9 at a pressure higher than that of the engine, resulting in the pressure of gas supplied to the cylinder 6 being temporarily increased, e.g. twofold. The engine cylinders 1 are supercharged and scavenged by air from the compressor cylinders 2 and are supplied through a duct 16 with starting air from the vessel 9, which is charged by a separate compressor 10 also driven by the engine. A receiver 4 is located between the duct 3 and a duct 5 supplying the cylinder 6 of the prime mover. During normal running the cylinders 1 exhaust through a valve 12 with injector valves 13; 14 closed, whilst when starting the valve 12 is closed and valves 13; 14 are open.
