In a rubber and plastic compounding and warming machine of the kind having a scraper assembly in contact with a front roll for the purpose of scraping compound from the front roll and deflecting it into the space between a work roll and a casing partly enclosing the work roll the scraper assembly comprises a fixed knuckle plate f with a cylindrical top, a blade holder e with a concave cylindrical surface bearing on the top of the knuckle plate, a scraper blade d carried by the holder, a series of pads k mounted on the holder beneath the blade and adapted to bear on the front roll a when the blade d is in contact therewith, and spring means g acting on the holder to keep the blade and pads in contact with the front roll. The scraper assembly is secured to the casing c which partly encloses the work roll. b.
