Abstract

665,896. Sewing-machines. KRECEK, R., and MIKOLAS, F. Dec. 3, 1948 [Dec. 6, 1947], No. 31366/48. Addition to 665,893. Class 112. Machines with work-benders.-In a machine as claimed in the parent Specification the presser-foot consists of a plate-like body 17 rigidly fixed to the machine head and having the loop-catcher 23, formed separately, fixed to its upper face. In the embodiment shown, the loopcatcher is spaced from the face of the foot 17 by a plate of thickness similar to that of the thread, and carries a thread-deflecting pin 24, with its lower part inclined towards the needle-path, to engage the upper limb of the thread loop carried by the looper 13, thus spreading the loop somewhat and also preventing the loop from being pulled off the looper as the work is withdrawn in the direction of feed, so that in this event the loop is ruptured; the lower limb of the loop is guided beneath the loop-catcher 23 by a bevelled under-surface on a plate 20 projecting into the area of the slot 17d, Fig. 4, which accommodates the work-bender and feed-dog. The needle is guided by curved upper surfaces of the plate 20 and a plate 19, these plates conforming to the needle path and being recessed into the rear part of the presser-foot, by a wall 17e on the foot, and by the edge of a guide-plate 21 fixed ever the plate 20. The looper 13 is mounted on a spindle 15, Fig. 2, which is inclined both to the plane of the needle-path and to a vertical plane lying in the line of feed, and is actuated by a toothed segment 12 on the tail of the needle-carrying arm on the main shaft 6 engaging a bevel gear on the upper end of the spindle. The work-bender has a stepped upper edge and is displaceable in its holder to bring the higher part into operation for through-stitching; its casing 27 is pivotally mounted and spring- pressed upwards to bring a lug thereon against the conical end of an adjusting screw 32 to provide for different thicknesses of work.
