Abstract

665,432. Universal joints. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Dec. 7, 1949 [Dec. 14, 1948], No. 31437/49. Class 80 (ii). In a motor-pump unit, the adjacent ends of the shafts 1, 2, journalled in bearings 3, 4 in the motor and pump housings 12, 13 respectively, are formed with hexagonal or other non-circular recesses 6, 7 in which engage the correspondingly-shaped enlarged ends 10, 11 of an intermediate member 8, with sufficient play to allow for limited misalignment of the shafts. The two housings are secured together by screws 14, removal of which enables one of the housings, with its shaft, to be moved axially so as to permit removal of the member 8. Alternatively, the heads 10, 11 may have sockets receiving non- circular end portions of the shafts.
