Abstract

2 - (5 - Acetanilido - 2 : 4 - pentadienylidene) - cyanacetylbenzfuran is prepared by refluxing together 2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran, glutaconic aldehyde dianilide hydrochloride, acetic anhydride, and fused sodium acetate. 2-(3-Acetanilidoallylidenecyanacetylbenzfuran, 5-(3-acetanilidoallylidene) - 1 : 3 - diphenylbarbituric acid, 5 - (5 - acetanilido - 2 : 4 - pentadienylidene) - 1 : 3-di-p-phenetylbarbituric acid, and 5-(5-acetanilido-3 : 4 - pentadienylidene) - 1 : 3 - di - b - methoxyethylbarbituric acid are similarly prepared. Specification 503,752, [Group XX], is referred to.ALSO:Unsymmetrical methine or polymethine oxonol dyes of the general formula <FORM:0663042/IV (c)/1> wherein X represents the atoms necessary to complete a barbituric acid, thiobarbituric acid, isoxazolone, indanedione, pyrazolone, or oxindole nucleus, n is 0, 1, or 2, and Y is a benzene or benzfuran nucleus, are prepared by reacting a barbituric acid, thiobarbituric acid, isoxazolone, indanedione, pyrazolone, or oxindole with a cyanacetylbenzfuran or benzoylacetonitrile, one of the reactants being in the form of an o -acetanilido-methylene, allylidene, or pentadienylidene derivative. [2 : 4 - Dimethylbenzoylacetonitrile] - [3 - methyl - 1 - phenyl - 5 - pyrazolone - (4)] - trimethineoxonol is prepared by refluxing together 4-(3-acetanilidoallylidene)-3-methyl-1-phenyl - 5 - pyrazolone, 2 : 4 - dimethylbenzoyl-acetonitrile, pyridine, and triethylamine. [2 - Cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [1 : 3 - diethylbarbituric acid - (5)] - pentamethineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [3 - methyl - 1 - p - sulphophenyl - 5 - pyrazolone - (4)] - trimethineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [3 - methyl - 1 - phenyl-5 - pyrazolone - (4)] - methineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [1 : 3 - diphenylbarbituric acid-(5)] - trimethineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [3 - methyl - 1 - phenyl - 5 - pyrazolone - (4)] - trimethineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [1 : 3 - diethyl - 2 - thiobarbituric acid - (5)] - pentamethineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetyl - 5 - phenylbenzfuran] - [1 : 3 - di - p - phenetylbarbituric acid - (5)] - pentamethineoxonol, [benzoylacetonitrile] - [1 : 3 - diethyl - 2 - thiobarbituric acid - (5)] - pentamethineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [1 - ethyloxindole - (3)] - pentamethineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [1 : 3 - di - b - methoxyethylbarbituric acid - (5)] - pentamethineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [1 : 3 - di - p - phenetyl-barbituric acid - (5)] - pentamethineoxonol, [3 - oxymethyl - 1 - phenyl - 5 - pyrazolone - (4)] - [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - pentamethineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [3 - methyl - 1 - p - tolyl - 5 - pyrazolone - (4)] - methineoxonol, [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [1 : 3 - indanedione - (2)] - pentamethineoxonol, and [2 - cyanacetylbenzfuran] - [3 - phenyl - 5(4) - isoxazolone - (4)] - pentamethineoxonol are similarly prepared.
