Abstract

662,514. Ice rinks. YOCUM, R. J. Sept. 15, 1949 [July 11, 1949], No. 23789/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 20(i) To provide markings on an ice rink, e.g. the goal lines in a ice-hockey game, strips of light conducting material which may be methyl methacrylate resin in particular- "Lucite," extend across the rink beneath the ice and are illuminated by lamps, at the end of the strips and lowered in a recessed portion of the rink sidewall. Those parts of the strip which are not required to be visible are covered with an opaque sheathing, possibly metal. The strip need not extend completely across the rink but the lamps must be situated near the ends of the strips. In a modification the strips are situated beneath a glass sheet above which are refrigerant tubes which are preferably of transparent material embedded in ice. The invention may be used in conjunction with the lighting arrangement described in Specification 651,381.
