Classes 29 and 64(iii) Apparatus for cooling liquids, e.g. milk and keeping it cool comprises a reservoir 6 for the cooling liquid containing the evaporator unit 14 of a refrigerating system 11 and having one wall 5 of heatconducting material so as to cool an adjacent cold-store cabinet 7, the liquid being withdrawn from the reservoir at 17 by a pump 18, passed through the milk cooler 16 or other heat exchanger and returned to the reservoir in the vicinity of the evaporator 14. The evaporator comprises a straight pipe 13 leading to a helical pipe 14 surrounding and spaced from the pipe 13, and a perforated cylinder 15 on which ice freezes. Milk to be cooled is run over the heat-exchanger 16, which may be a corrugated tray type cooler through which the cooling liquid rises and returns to the reservoir, through a spray 20 and a perforated tube 21, on to the ice formed in and around the cylinder 15. The churns of cooled milk are stored in the compartment 7.
