Abstract

660,785. Valves formed with seats for other valves. HARPER-WYMAN CO. July 17, 1947. [Nov. 13, 1946] 19161/47. Class 135. [Also in Group XI] A valve controlling the gas supply to a double (main and simmer) burner comprises a hollow rotatable plug 16 with a transverse passage 22 leading to the interior of the plug and a further transverse passage, not shown, which also communicates with the interior of the plug via an auxiliary valve 46, the arrangement being that, in one position of the plug, a small quantity of gas passes through the auxiliary valve and the hollow interior of the plug to the simmer burner, in a second position of the plug, a larger quantity of gas can flow to the simmer burner, and, in a third position of the plug, gas is supplied to both burners. The gas flows from the interior of the plug to a chamber 20 and thence to the burner past a needle valve 76. A further transverse passage in the plug allows gas to flow through a radial passage in the valve body, similar to the inlet passage 26, to an outlet provided with a needle valve and leading to the main burner. The passages in the valve body and in the plug are staggered both axially and radially. A further small transverse passage is provided in the plug to prevent gas from being cut off from the burners whilst the plug is being turned between two of its positions. The auxiliary valve rotates in a sleeve 42, and in order to prevent the escape of gas past the valve, an indentation 62 in the sleeve engages in a lubricant filled groove in the valve. A position indicating device 90 is provided for the plug 16.
