Abstract
659,923. Lamp-holders. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and WOOD, C. W. March 24, 1949, No. 8081. [Class 38 (i)] A socket for a discharge lamp comprises a contact arm 17 insulatingly mounted on a resilient contact member 14 and adapted to bridge a pair of line contacts when a lamp pin is inserted to engage member 14. The socket is intended for use with an installation such as that disclosed in Specification 617,745, i.e. with a high voltage discharge lamp having a single contact pin at each end, the high voltage being obtained from an auto or double winding transformer. The line contacts are carried by a pair of resilient conductors one of which is shown at 8, riveted, together with member 14, to a base 11 in the socket housing 1, their lower ends carrying terminals. The line contacts are connected in the primary circuit of the supply transformer and member 14 is connected to one side of the high voltage winding of said transformer. The upper end of member 14 is bent away from the resilient conductors so as to space the arm 17 from them when the lamp is detached from the socket. Access to the terminals is obtained through the lower face of the housing which is closed by a removable cover 18. The lamp receiving face of the housing is recessed at 4 to support the end of the lamp.
