Abstract

659,456. Ball joints. BODEN-DAVIS, Ltd., BODEN, C., and DAVIS. J. May 6, 1949 No. 12113. [Class 65(ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A vehicle trailer coupling comprises a ball member 1 engaging a socket member 3 and held therein by a cylindrical retaining member 5 which is rotatable through 180 degrees from the "locked" position shown to the " unlocked" position to allow separation of the members. The spherically-ended cylindrical recess which engages the ball is inclined as shown to give a greater overhang on the retaining member than could be obtained if the axes of the former and the latter were perpendicular. A rod extending through a semicircular slot 6 in the member 3 facilitates rotation of the member 5 and carries spring locking means engaging the enlarged ends of slot 6.
