Abstract

658,072. Mechanical toy vehicles. STRASSER, J. Aug. 5, 1949, No. 20429. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1948. [Class 132 (iii)] A toy vehicle comprises automatic front wheel steering which is connected with the driving mechanism and which may be preset to make the vehicle trace a number of set figures by means of adjustable setting cams. In Fig. 3, the clockwork motor actuated by helical spring 18 (not shown) drives the vehicle and also causes rack bars 3 to move slowly longitudinally forward. When a cam 37 is set to the right or left of its centre position in its slot 38 the corresponding pawl member attached to its sliding member 17 causes the latter to pivot up and one of the lugs 24 to engage a stop 34 thus turning the steering mechanism until the pawl clears the cam. Traffic indicators 29 may be fitted which automatically operate when the vehicle is turning. A simplified embodiment of part of the steering arrangement is illustrated in Figs. 4, 5, 6 (not shown). The body is stiffened by flanges 40, 41 and the web portion at the rear of the frame.
