Abstract
657,437. Cutting fodder. KALMAN J. Feb. 8, 1949, No. 3407. [Class 5 (i) ] A machine for cutting and delivering cabbage and other material to e.g. a wagon or silo &c. comprises a hopper 1, and a rotary drum and concave type cutter 2, 3 detachably arranged over the (screw) conveyer 5 which conveys to a blower conveyer 6 which delivers through an outlet 36. The machine may be used as a conveyer only Fig. 4 (not shown) without the cutter. The cutter comprises blades 7 on the rotary drum 2 cooperating with fixed blades 7 on the concave 3. The cutter delivers into a trough 11 containing the screw conveyer 5. The scoop or blade wheel 14 of the 'blower conveyer may be mounted on the same shaft 10 as the screw conveyer 5. The drum shaft 8 and conveyer shaft 10 are coupled by chain or gear drive. The blower may be dispensed with as in Fig. 5 (not shown) the screw conveyer then sloping up to deliver the cut material at a height. The apparatus is mounted on wheels 32 and is shown coupled up to a tractor 25 which provides the power drive through universal joint 21, 23. A trailer wagon may be coupled at 35 to receive the cut and delivered material. A pulley 29 is also provided to receive a driving belt for the machine when used in a stationary location. Collecting and foraging means may be mounted on the machine to deliver into the hopper 1.
