Abstract
655,801. Actuation of switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and APPLEYARD, A. N. Aug. 17, 1948, No. 21706. [Class 38(v)] '[Also in Group XXIV] A coupling extended for driving the operating shaft of a tapping switch on an oil-immersed transformer is constructed to provide a glandless hermetic seal where it extends through the wall of the transformer tank. The switch shaft 11 is rotatable in a bushing 1 secured to the oil-tank and has an eccentric hole 19 whereby it is rotatably connected to an intermediate member 12 by a pin 24, a pin 23 similarly connecting the member 12 with a.driving member 8. A metallic bellows 14 secured to the bushing 1 and to a flange 13 on the member 12 constitutes the hermetic seal, and prevents any tendency for the member 12 to rotate about its own axis, whereby the member 12 describes a double cone having its apex on the axis 17 and the shaft 11 rotates in consonance with the member 8. According to the Provisional Specification, the flange 13 is situated at the centre of the member 12. Specification 15,172/12, [Class 80(iii)], is referred to.
