655,546. Automatic exchange systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 23, 1948, No. 11452. [Class 40 (iv] In a 4-wire to 2-wire connection, one leg GC of the 4-wire circuit is normally split or attenuated at contacts of a relay ES between the receiver GR and a hybrid coil IH. Numerical signals received by a voice-frequency receiver GR are transmitted over an auxiliary channel GX (not shown), and the talking circuit is completed when ES is operated by an end-of-selection signal. A non-numerical signal operates F1 or F2 and C and is preceded by a prefix which operates F1, F2 together. Relay PXT follows F1, F2 when operated together and splits or attenuates the line until the end of the signal. The line may be attenuated as described in Specification 654,674.
