Abstract

1 - a - Naphthyl - 5 - pyrazolone - 3 - carboxylic acid is prepared by reacting a -naphthylhydrazine hydrochloride with ethyl oxalacetate in aqueous acetic acid, adding sodium hydroxide to effect ring closure, and acidifying. 1-b -Naphthyl - 5 - pyrazolone - 3 - carboxylic acid and 1-o-tolyl-5-pyrazolone-3-carboxylic acid are similarly prepared. Specification 210,862, [Class 98 (ii)], is referred to.
