[Class 37] A condenser having as dielectric a plurality of insulating layers D impregnated with an insulating medium, is strengthened at the edges of the metallic layers B by one or more intermediate insulating layers R of a thickness not exceeding 12 Î 10<SP>-4</SP> cm. inserted on each side of said metallic layers. Metallic layers that project from the condenser need not have their projecting edges strengthened and such projections preferably occur on alternate sides of the condenser. If a plurality of the intermediate layers R are to be used on each side of the metallic layers, these intermediate layers may be graded in dimensions in the manner shown in Fig. 5 and their resulting corners may be filled in with a plastic insulating material E, or be ground away, as shown in Fig. 6. In the strengthened marginal regions, at least one additional metallic layer or conductive coating Z may be included between the main dielectric layers as shown in Fig. 4, and those additional metallic layers which are at the same level may be connected together electrically. The condenser, if rolled, is preferably pressed flat. Specifications 642,267, 654,983 and 654,984 are referred to.
