Abstract
654,894. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BUTLER, H. J. Aug. 12, 1948, No. 21256. [Class 103 (i)] In a disc brake similar to that described in Specification 625,726, the force applied by the fluid-pressure operated piston and cylinder 12, 8 to the brake discs is increased or reduced by the use of force transmitting levers 14, 15, pivoting at suitable points along their length. As shown, the levers 14, 15 have their inner pair of ends 14a, 15a engaged by the piston 12, their outer ends pivoting on fixed abutments 16, 17 and are connected intermediately by pins 11a to rods 9 which extend through the annular space 3 between the inner and outer discs 1, 2, so as to clamp together the friction members 18, 19. Two alternative arrangements are described in which the levers have fulcra intermediate their ends. According to the Provisional Specification the actuating mechanism may be used on a brake, as described in Specification 654,885.
