[Class 87 (ii)] In a hand-operated machine for making blocks or bricks of concrete &c. the compression of the loose material within the mould box and the ejection of the finished article are effected in predetermined order by unidirectional movement of a hand lever. A wooden pallet 26 is positioned in'the mould box, the box charged from a hopper 38 and the charge levelled off by closing by hand the pivotal top cover 18. The operator then pulls lever 9 from the vertical position, Fig. 2, to the depressed position, Fig. 6, thus rotating the shaft 6 and cams 10, 11, 11. During this movement, (1) bars 15, 16 connected respectively to mould sides 12, 13 and engaging cams 11, 11 through rollers 17, are moved in opposite directions against the tension of a spring 14, thus causing the mould sides 12, 13 to move towards each other and compress the material in the mould ; (2) engagement of the rollers 17 on the bars 16 with low portions 11a on the cams 11 causes the mould side 13 to move back slightly and thus relieve the pressure ; (3) the peripheral portion 10a of the cam 10 contacts roller 21 of bars 23 and knocks back cover-plate 18 ; at the same time the side plates 12, 13 become free to open fully under the influence of the spring 14 ; (4) the cam 10 displaces roller 36, thus tilting bars 35, 28 and raising mould bottom 25 on its pillar 27. During ejection a peripheral extension 10b on the cam 10 bears against the roller 21 and prevents accidental closing of the cover 18.
