Abstract
653,714. Windows. BECKETT, LAYCOCK & WATKINSON, Ltd. Sept. 30, 1948, No. 25551. [Class 20 (iii)] A rubber packing-strip 20 for a window in which the glass 25 is mounted in a metal channel 23 and is pressed towards one side wall thereof to locate it, is of U- section to embrace a wall of the channel and is provided with a part 34 which extends transversely to retain the strip in position. In Figs. 1, 2 the strip 20 has a long outer limb 21, and a short inner limb 22, which contacts with the glass 25, a lip 27 providing an effective seal. The part 34 embraces the horizontal surfaces 24 of the channel 23, and the glass is retained in place by a packing-strip 41 of known form. The strip 20 may be formed as shown in Figs. 3 and 5 to engage with a part 28 or 32 of the structure which contains the window. In a modification the structure part 32 is vertical and the slot in the strip 20 is correspondingly positioned. In a construction wherein the vertical flange of the metal channel of Fig. 1 is bent back on itself to present an outwardly directed edge around the window opening, the part 34 of the strip 20 is slotted to receive the said edge. In another modification of the arrangement of Fig. 1 the part 34 is sandwiched between the surfaces 24 and surfaces on the supporting structure, the free ends of the strip having triangular lips which are deformed against both metal parts to provide effective water seals. Wood-screws pass through the parts 24 of the metal channel and through the rubber strips and the structural parts into wooden filler blocks.
